President Buhari contested fiercely with a man from my state, a man I consider a brother, the then sitting president. He is Goodluck ebele Jonathan, the immediate past President of Nigeria, who ruled Nigeria for good 6 years. Goodluck Jonathan is a man whose kernel were broken for by benevolent spirits as he successfully fought his way from the button of the ladder to the top without fighting. He was someone people loved and respected due to his humble background which relates with many Nigerians. He was poor, he went to school without food most times, he had no shoes neither a school bag, and must walk miles and cross a river before getting to school. He was able to bag his doctorate degree despite these odds. This is the story of many Nigerians... From rag to riches. We were happy that a man who has suffered, a man who understood suffering has come to rule us and things would be so much better because he has experienced that which millions of Nigerians experience on a daily basis. He tried his best but his best was far from what Nigerians expected. He was expected to perform magic and magic he could not perform being a mere mortal. He made some terrible decisions that plunged the masses deeper to more suffering. He was weak in taking action against corrupt leaders in his cabinet. He gave corrupt leaders so much impunity. Although, some claimed he couldn't act because he was a minority and was obviously surrendered by enemies who did everything to thwart his efforts in his bid for nation building. They called him a woman to signify how weak he was in taking action against corrupt politicians. He was not a bad leader but was no doubt corrupt. He might not have stolen much from the government but did nothing to those who did. He was said to be the master mind behind the siphoning of money by other cabinet members to fund his re-election. Perhaps this calms were right considering he did nothing to indict such persons. Perhaps all this claims were absolutely wrong. When president Buhari came with the change mantra, people heralded him as their last hope. He had ruled Nigeria for a period of 2 years under the military regime and he was said to have proven himself as an honest leader, infact he instilled in Nigerians a sense of discipline and orderliness. We voted him and he got victory to his greatest astonishment. Because sitting presidents don't lose election in this part of the world but former president Goodluck Jonathan congratulated him even before the winner was officially announced. This is why most of us still consider Goodluck Jonathan a saint. The man Buhari wouldn't lose an election as a sitting president. I'm sure he did that for peace to reign and also for Nigerians to taste another leader to show that he had their best interest at heart. President Buhari came and made several promises and woefully failed to fulfill them. He thought he could move mountains when ever he wanted like the military era... Baba did not know that in a democracy due processes has to be followed. He in an effort to take short cuts in handling corrupt practices, appointing only his tribes men for top government jobs, closing the country's shops to fight corrupt leaders in the most unethical ways has shown he is no better than others who had ruled Nigeria. Some said he is the worst leader ever. Many Nigerians have chosen to disagree and be disloyal to Buhari because he is not the man they had thought would salvage them from suffering. He is not the man to give them change as he had promised since he does the same terrible mistakes like past leaders. Nigerians don't have much patience to endure a government which they see as unproductive, a government that promised them eureka but is yet to fulfill it. Unlike your question: President Buhari is not hated by all Nigerians. In a country that is hopelessly divided by tribe an religion, a good number of citizens still believe that he is the best leader to have ruled Nigeria. Is he a good president? You only have to walk the streets of Nigeria to answer that question.
