Eight Life Lessons Everyone Should Learn From The Movie "3 Idiots"

If you have seen the movie “3 Idiots,” then, apart from being entertained, I’m sure you learnt something from it. These are some lessons I believe everyone should learn from the movie.

1.Keep it Short & Simple:

In one of the scenes, a lecturer wanted the textbook definition of a machine and was not satisfied with Rancho’s simple and clear definition.

Many schools are fond of encouraging textbook definitions, which may not actually be right. The students should be intelligent enough to define things in their own words- and not cram whatever information the textbook provides.

Also, always try to pass your message across in the simplest way you can. What’s the point of using high-sounding and ambiguous words while communicating when you can make use of much simpler words?

2.Make Your Passion Your Profession:

This is a very valuable lesson. Many people who have a passion for Literature or Fine Arts may end up studying Medicine or Engineering due to the belief that such courses are “professional” and offer a wider range of opportunities. Such students end up doing badly in school.

In the movie, Farhan was forced to study Engineering even though he wanted to become a wildlife photographer- and his performance in school was below average as a result.

3. Life is a Race:

In life, you ought to know that you are faced with intense competition in whatever field you find yourself. You have to compete and overcome- or be trampled on.

Professor Viru Sahastrabuddhe always reminded the students that life was a race and you had to be alert- or you will end up being crushed.

4. Practical Application Should be Encouraged:

A lot of schools fall short in this aspect. They instill students with theoretical knowledge but in terms of practical aspect, the students are empty. What’s the point of being able to define a thermometer perfectly

Rancho applied his practical knowledge in helping deliver Prof Viru Sahastrabuddhe’s daughter’s child when all hope was nearly lost.

5. Subdue the Pressure:

You may likely not survive it if you are carrying a heavy weight on your shoulders.

Raju had all the expectations of his family placed on his back- and it shook him terribly and caused him to make a lot of blunders.

Joy Lobo took his own life because of the pressure of being the first graduate from his village- a reality which suffered a huge blow after he got an extra year.

6. Conquer Your Fear:

You need to be brave enough to overcome your fears in order to go far.

Rancho taught Farhan and Raju to always whisper “All Is Well” with their hand placed on their chest whenever they were faced with their fears and that it would help them overcome those fears.

7. Good Friends are Everything:

Always try to make friends with people who will have a positive influence on you.

Without Rancho, Raju and Farhan may have ended up in a very terrible situation.

8. You Can be Educated Anywhere:

When you hear that someone is educated, you often tend to think that they can speak English effortlessly or they have Masters and PhD in Engineering or Law. But mustn’t get your education from a school environment.

In the movie, many of the things Rancho knew were not as a result of what he read in school books or taught by teachers, but rather knowledge he acquired by experimenting and studying the environment around him.
