Netflix series have a peculiar tone to them, be it any series, The Hundred, Game of Thrones. A tone that makes you scared and repelled as well as attracted to it. A tone that turns you mad but you never knew you could be so mad and the exploration that frees you
unknowingly. Most of all a tone that manages to address youth, instigating or inspiring their
vitality and fickle behaviour in positive or relatively negative way. The characters of these
series come with a baggage of complexities and repression, they travel through their darknesses to their light giving a cathartic relief to our young viewers who constantly need it more so in this age when repression in societies is having a dramatic upheaval. Our families are breaking or broken, our lives voilent or on the brink of voilence yet we act as spiritual gurus, our loyalties change or draw close to betrayal, our conscience sold out or constantly tested. The need of relief comes from these somewhat quirky shows and may in fact blow your mind.
Netflix series manages to address to whatever we are going through unlike our tv shows who are becoming boring and monotonous to the tee and old formulae are tried out again and again. The series of shows on Netflix are refreshingly amazing in that sense, they know what is needed and how discomfort can be comforting and comfort can be discomforting. They have got rid of the cliche through their realistic writings slowly but surely. The master narratives are quickly being replaced by matanarratives. Sober is no longer sober. Evil is no longer black and white here. There is a lot of room for the grey. Writers of these series explored and explored with honesty every genre in the book, and they have even mixed the genres. Sci-fi is dramatic, and drama is action packed. Love stories are hate stories and fantasies have a realism about them.
The loneliness of youth does make them subject to the second screen more, no doubt about that but taking nothing away from the episodes of these series which are trying to better themselves from the previous episodes to the newer ones, the plot challenges itself, the character rise above themselves, the action demands and breaks those demands the darkness creeps through the lights, the light manages to come out, the whole process does fail to convince sometimes, but mostly it wins and wins gaily and the overall battle is worth our time. In the age of internet and social media everything on the screen can't manage the quality but netflix has by and large managed to overcome revolution of quantity by their review system, the drawbacks however that come with bad shows could be constantly worked on so that the viewers start trusting the content more and faith on Netflix grows by leaps and bounds because internet is so far the easiest of mediums available for the literate youth as well the illitrate ones and the handy availability of internet is pure gold.
