It has recently come to light that Nigerians are the ones bringing the highest number of relatives to the United Kingdom, which has led Home Secretary Suella Braverman to announce plans to reduce the overall amount of immigration to the United Kingdom through a process known as "net migration." This could result in a crackdown on Nigerian migrants coming into the United Kingdom.
According to figures provided by the Home Office, Nigerians accounted for forty percent of all dependents who travelled with international students in the 12 months leading up to June. This is despite the fact that Nigerian students made up only seven percent of all international students during that time period.

There were around 34,000 Nigerians who were granted study visas to enter the United Kingdom. These individuals brought a combined total of 31,898 dependents with them. A similar ratio was reported for work visas, with 8,972 Nigerians being granted with one in the 12 months leading up to June, bringing with them 8,576 dependants with them.
It was revealed in August that Nigerian students had become the third biggest group of international students in the UK. This comes after a meteoric 686% growth in the number of Nigerian students studying in the UK since before the epidemic.
