Lee Burge, the goalie for Sunderland, is anticipated to be out for another four or five weeks due to cardiac problems he had after getting the COVID-19 vaccination. Burge lately had heart palpitations and was diagnosed with an irritated heart soon after.
Lee Johnson, the manager of Sunderland, feels that his goalkeeper's cardiac troubles may have been caused by his COVID vaccine. On Friday, the 40-year-old coach said:
“It seems to happen a lot after these injections or COVID. The weighting would be on COVID but you can’t rule out, I suppose, vaccination.”
The manager added:
“Burge has 4-5 weeks when he has to keep his heart rate below 100bpm and have blood tests and hope it goes back to normal.”
This season, Burge has mostly served as a backup to Sunderland's No. 1 goalkeeper, Thorben Hoffman. He has, however, made nine appearances for the "Black Cats," including a League Cup quarter-final loss against Arsenal in December.
According to data from December, over 75% of players in the English Football League (EFL), in which Sunderland competes, were either completely vaccinated, had a single injection, or were planning to get vaccinated. A total of 59 percent of players were double immunised, while 16 percent were scheduled to get the vaccination, and 25% of players had no plans to receive a COVID vaccine at the time.
