The Better You: Self-improvement Tips

I am sure most people, if not all, want to improve their lives and become the better version of themselves. While the reason for some is to please the society and other people, the reason for other individuals out there is to just find their inner peace and happiness and to feel the satisfaction for who they have become. Finding your internal peace and happiness is the key towards your overall self-development. You can improve your life by becoming better than you already are. A few helpful tips on ‘the better you’ would be discussed below:

·        Think Positive: You are wondering why almost every article on self-improvement tips starts with “Think Positive”? The answer is simple. Our mindset is the most important thing we have to consider in other to improve our lives. Having the proper mindset means everything because anything can be possible with the right mindset. If you think positively, your thoughts will be directed towards newer opportunities. You will always manage to find a way out of your problems without giving up. Thinking in a positive way does not mean that you should not accept the existence of negativity. You should understand that there are lots of negativity out there and they are real. Failures, betrayals, disappointments and everything worse are part of the reality however, this should not hinder you from thinking of all the good things that can happen to you. At least having a positive outlook towards life would not hurt you in any way but harboring negativity will destroy your inner peace of mind and make you feel hopeless about life.

·        Accept Your Past: Just like harboring negativity, holding unto a painful past can destroy your inner peace of mind. Your past failures, mistakes, disappointments, and everything are all in the ‘past’. There is no way to reverse time and undo the things that happened therefore, worrying about what has already happened will only make you feel more miserable since you can’t change it. Everybody is bound to face such challenges, disappointments and failures at some point in their lives. Besides, making mistakes are part of being human so you still have the options to either continue wallowing in the pool of sadness, or to accept your mistakes, learn from them and move on with caution to prevent repeating the same in the future.

·        Find Your Future: Nobody sit on their butts and expect a bright future to come to their way. If you don’t plant your seeds now, you won’t have anything to harvest later. Start from somewhere and take as much time as you need to gradually develop yourself. No need to hurry or rush because there is no specific winning point you have to reach in life. Humans will continue to struggle as long as they live. Even after becoming successful, humans will continue craving to accomplish more out of natural greed unless something inevitable like age or death prevents us from doing so. Whatever you do in life, go at your own pace because it is not a race.

·        Meditate and Listen to Your feelings: There will always be tough times for you no matter how cautious you are in your life. Some things happen not because you made them happen but because they are meant to happen and you cannot stop them. Having time to meditate and listen to your feelings will help you find the best solution to your problems. It is true that we can find the solutions to our problems if we listen carefully to our inner feelings. Meditation is also a good way to relieve your stress and refresh your mindset to endure another round of battle.

·        Cut out Negative People in Your Life: There are always people out there waiting for an opportunity to destroy your inner peace. If they are strangers, their negativity may not impact on you but if they are close friends, family or relatives, their negativity would definitely affect your peace of mind. It’s easier to cut out negative friends than to cut out negative family members or relatives because of the ties that binds you together however, this does not mean that you have to listen to their negativity. You can either distance yourself from such people, or shield yourself against them by understanding that their opinions, thoughts and everything they say, belongs only to them and you are not bound to listen or accept their opinions. It can be a difficult experience to cope with but with time, you’ll get used to dumping their opinions in the trash and maybe hopefully someday, they will get tired of trying to influence you.

·        Don’t Throw Away What Makes You Happy: Sometimes, we give up on doing what makes us happy simply because it doesn’t bring us money. Our little hobbies like drawing and painting may not become the career paths that will make us rich but it is something we love doing. We feel happy and satisfied doing it so that’s enough of a reward. No matter how tight your schedule may be, spare a moment just once in a while to do that favorite activity that makes you feel happy. Along with meditation, this would also refresh your brain and allow you to breathe and reward yourself for enduring all the stress.
