Indeed, Internet fraud or better put, yahoo yahoo has occupied a monstrous position amongst a reasonable minority of Nigerian youths. But I ask are they entirely to blame? No. Opportunities are lacking in Nigeria. In a situation whence our leaders like governors, senators, and other politicians have developed a culture of self aggrandizement and enrichment with no known source of income except that they have the public treasury at their disposal. Thus having negative effects on our youths, they can see the expensive cars this politrickcian and sinator dudes buy for their wives, kids and friends. Surely everyone loves the fancy life. Not defending yahoo yahoo in any ramifications but there's a kind of angle to this trend. Our politrickcians steal from us and invest abroad in the countries of our former colonial masters who embezzled our resources in mammoth proportions whilst yahoo yahoo boys dupe from these lands and spend in Nigeria! The name given to them is rightly put "yahoo yahoo boys" while our politrickcians are "yahoo yahoo men". And when Fela sang "animal in human skin, animal he put suit o, animal he wear agbada". This is a apt description of Nigeria's politrickcians as well. With the tenacity the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission is using in arresting these boys, same should be extended to politicians because they established this culture. Verily my point is yahoo yahoo boys are not different from 99.9% of Nigeria's big men politicians. All should be given same treatment. Yes these boys give bad image to Nigeria internationally but so are our politrickcians. Is it because they are only stealing maggi, that's why they are being arrested? It's quite a very difficult society to live in and thrive in Nigeria. On a final note I call on Nigerian youths to not give up by giving in into yahoo yahoo but rather strive to make Nigeria a better place, we must not let our politrickcians continue tricking us by voting on the basis of religion or tribe but rather based on merit we must elect leaders who would use our public wealth to create opportunities for us all.
