Introduction.
Parent-teacher relationship may be good or bad. All these depend on the wishes of both parties. If one party feels that their wishes are not met it may bring conflict and misunderstanding. It is important to know that each party plays an important role in improving the education of students. Parents most of time have wishes that they dream that teacher should stop doing to them or the students. This wishes may be major factors that will enable the students to achieve their academic goals.
The following are three things that parents wish teachers would stop doing:
Stop expelling students over minor issues.
Sometimes students may misbehave a little, teachers may act irrational and expel or suspend the student. This thing irritate most parents because they see that teachers have lost hope in taming the life of student. Parent wish that teachers should involve them in coming up with a solution that will benefit the student. If the student has committed a mistake which does not affect other students, staff, or school it is good for the student to be given another chance. The parents should be given a reports on the behaviors of their children so that they may be part of their lives. These will help the parents to understand what their kids are going through.
Over burdening students with homework.
Homework is good. It helps in keeping the students focus in their education. It helps in improving the skills of the student. Excess homework may in other way be inappropriate. Taking an example a student is sent home with more than three homework to handle and parents help is needed, the parent has to schedule his/her timetable to create time to help the kids. If a parent has more than one kid he will end up spending all the time teaching the kids. This may be inconvenient putting in mind the parent has to cater for other needs.
Stop being “all knowing” about their children.
Some teachers behave like stalkers. They assume to know everything students go through. They assume to know what they want in life, who they want to date or which career is best for them. Parents do feel annoyed when other people behave like they know their kids better than them. Parents wish that teachers should only focus in educating their children, guiding them in good path when at school, and ensuring that they understand importance of education and talents in their future life. If incase the teacher wants to know any personal details about the student it would be good if the parents are involved. These will help both the teacher and the parent learn something new about the student.
Conclusion.
If only teachers could understand all these wishes, the relationship between them and the parents would improve. They would both work under a common goal of improving education of their students and obtaining academic goal. It is not hard to achieve all these wishes parents must open up and let the teachers know what they want. Students should also play a great role in improving parent-teacher relationship.
