Unemployment as a Cause of Internet Fraud (Yahoo Yahoo)  Amongst Nigerian Youths. 

In Nigeria, internet fraud popularly known as "Yahoo Yahoo" has become so prevalent in the hearts of some Nigerian youths. While there have been different factors and reasons while youths indulge in such act, unemployment has been regarded as a major cause. Yahoo Yahoo as it is popularly called is a criminal act that is used to extort money from people most especially, citizens of The United States of America, using social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram etc, as means.

Yahoo Yahoo is believed to have started due to the rampant increase of  unemployment in Nigeria. As a result, some Nigerian youths have picked up the act as a means of survival to generate income for themselves. This act has also made some of its victims or clients go bankrupt, be in debt or even attempt suicide as the case may be.

Unemployment can be a cause of Internet fraud among some youths in Nigeria because of the belief that the circumstances in the country is not favourable enough to get a job. This belief has affected the education of some youths making them either drop out from school, or perform poorly in their education, having the ideology of making quick money without education.

Internet fraud has now gone beyond chatting on social media platforms to extorting people. Due to the involvement of security agencies arresting anyone caught in the act, and also the victims knowing that they are about to be or will eventually be scammed, the fraudsters or so called "Yahoo boys" indulge in  levelling up their acts by "plusing"; this levelled act is referred to as "yahoo plus". Fraudsters engage in this act by using human beings or human body parts as rituals.  

Yahoo plus is the highest level of internet fraud where sacrifices are made in order to affect their victims state of mind into doing their bidding, the sacrifices do not only involve affecting the state of mind of the client but also affects some innocent victims whose life are cut short or ruined for the sacrifice to be successful.

So many casualties has been caused as a result of Yahoo plus. The victims used are usually doomed; they either end up being dead or mentally deranged. The main victims of Yahoo plus are mostly ladies, especially social workers, sex workers or random girls that are either enticed with wealth or are picked up from clubs. So many cases of such incidents have been reported and also gone viral through social media platforms. An instance is a current video of a lady who was dropped from an unknown vehicle; after being dropped, she was unable to move and her flesh eventually began to shrink. This, and many other is the end result of such victims.  

The issue of unemployment which is one of the reasons causing this fraudulent act needs to be dealt with. When the government cannot provide what the citizens need to survive, these citizens indulge in various odious and obnoxious acts. Though the act might seem impossible to curb, the government should be able to create necessary job opportunities for younger generations so they would not become victims or either indulge in it.
